Reason for Arrest:
On March 23, 2017, police arrested Wang Lingjie for being an upper-lever leader of The Church of Almighty God. The Jizhou People’s Court charged Wang Lingjie with “using a xie jiao organization to undermine law enforcement” and on January 4 of 2018, sentenced her to nine years in prison (from April 27, 2017 to April 2, 2026) and a fine of 20,000 RMB (about 3,000 USD).
After she was arrested, the police placed her under residential surveillance and forcibly indoctrinate her with atheist ideology, brainwash her, force her to renounce her faith.
When Wang’s case was heard in the People’s Court on January 4, 2018, her right to due process was deprived–the Court even didn’t assign a defense lawyer for her. In late January 2018, Wang Lingjie was transferred to the Nanchang City Women’s Prison in Jiangxi Province. To this day, sheremains imprisoned by the Chinese government.
